This instructor led course teaches students how to perform Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) upgrades. Students will learn how to upgrade to the latest version of the VIOS, version 4.1. They will explore the various options available for upgrading a VIOS. In the hands-on labs students will use the viosupgrade utility to upgrade a VIOS.

This self-paced introductory course teaches students how to perform AIX migrations. Students will learn how to migrate from AIX 7.2 to AIX 7.3. They will explore the available migration options, such as migrating with NIM and performing conventional migrations using AIX media. In the hands-on labs students will have the opportunity to migrate an AIX system to AIX 7.3 using these options. It is highly recommended that students have prior experience with AIX system administration. Familiarity with AIX Network Installation Management (NIM) is also recommended. Completing the AIX Network Installation Management Concepts and Configuration (AN22G) course is strongly encouraged before taking this course.

This hands-on course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of IBM PowerSC, including its features, benefits, and how to install, configure, and manage it. We will cover the four main pillars of PowerSC: Security, Compliance, threat protection, and Multifactor Authentication (MFA).File Integrity Monitoring (FIM), allow listing, block listing, endpoint detection and response (EDR) and anti-malware capabilities will also be covered.

This course discusses the differences between AIX and Linux by comparing and contrasting the two operating systems. System administration is focus of this course, so typical tasks performed by a system administrator are covered. All comparisons are targeted towards the Red Hat Linux (RHEL) operating system (running on IBM Power servers). However, in many cases the concepts discussed here also apply to other Linux distributions (that run natively on IBM Power servers). This is a jumpstart for Linux class for experienced AIX admins. The material is not intended as a complete replacement or substitute for more comprehensive Linux technical training provided by IBM and Linux vendors. At the end of the course students will have learned the foundation of many Linux administration tasks, enabling them to start their journey with Linux system administration and expand their skills moving forward. Students are then encouraged to attend further training to deepen their native Linux system administration skills.

This course enables students to perform AIX Live Update operations on the AIX operating system. This includes installing interim fixes, service packs and technology levels using the AIX Live Update capability. Students in this course will learn how to implement AIX Live Update. Students will also be exposed to the different management types for live update and learn skills required to install AIX updates, such as technology levels, service packs and interim fixes, without requiring downtime (a reboot) for the server. Best practices and testing methods for live update will be discussed, providing students with the knowledge to effectively configure and manage live update in a production environment. Additionally, students will learn skills to troubleshoot and debug live update issues.

This course teaches students how to transform traditional (monolithic) WebSphere applications to run in a containerized environment–Red Hat OpenShift–by using WebSphere Hybrid Edition. It covers two key reference implementations: Operational Modernization: Repackage the application to deploy in a container while maintaining the monolithic architecture. This solution does not require changes to the application or runtime. It uses Transformation Advisor (part of WebSphere Hybrid Edition) to assess the application, and the Runtime Operator to manage the containerized application on Red Hat OpenShift. Runtime Modernization: Update the application to run on Open Liberty, a modern cloud-native runtime. Modernize some aspects of the application by taking advantage of MicroProfile specifications. This solution uses Transformation Advisor (part of WebSphere Hybrid Edition), and the Open Liberty Operator to deploy and manage the modernized application on Red Hat OpenShift.

This introductory course enables a new system operator to develop basic to intermediate level skills needed for day-to-day operations of IBM i.  Focus is given to using the GUI (IBM i Access Client Solutions and IBM Navigator for i) as well as 5250 emulation sessions to perform tasks including job control, monitoring, sending messages, managing systems devices, and more.
