This course equips experienced database administrators with the skills needed to analyze, tune, and optimize the performance of IBM Db2 12 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows. Participants will learn how to interpret and influence the Db2 query optimization process using statistical metadata, develop efficient indexing strategies for high-performance workloads, and apply advanced tools such as EXPLAIN, db2pd, and the Db2 Data Management Console to evaluate and refine SQL access paths. The course also introduces the Db2 AI Optimizer and automation techniques that simplify statistics collection and performance diagnostics. Emphasis is placed on real-world use cases, practical monitoring methods, and proactive tuning practices to ensure scalable and efficient database operations in enterprise environments.

This course discusses the differences between AIX and Linux by comparing and contrasting the two operating systems. System administration is focus of this course, so typical tasks performed by a system administrator are covered. All comparisons are targeted towards the Red Hat Linux (RHEL) operating system (running on IBM Power servers). However, in many cases the concepts discussed here also apply to other Linux distributions (that run natively on IBM Power servers). This is a jumpstart for Linux class for experienced AIX admins. The material is not intended as a complete replacement or substitute for more comprehensive Linux technical training provided by IBM and Linux vendors. At the end of the course students will have learned the foundation of many Linux administration tasks, enabling them to start their journey with Linux system administration and expand their skills moving forward. Students are then encouraged to attend further training to deepen their native Linux system administration skills.

The goal of this course is to provide the student with a tangible understanding and a real hands-on experience with generative AI applications deployed and optimized for IBM Power systems. This self-paced virtual course uses video lectures, review questions, and virtual lab machine exercises to provide the student with foundational knowledge and experience about the topics covered in the course. In the lecture, the student begins by learning the basics of generative AI, and the basic components of a generative AI application, then applies these concepts to real-world examples on Power where the student learns Power offerings for AI workloads, package management fundamentals in Python, Operating System deployment strategies on Power, and Power hardware use cases. The lab exercises will start with viewing and manipulating files in a basic AI application running on IBM Power Red Hat Enterprise Linux. They will have hands-on experience identifying the components of that AI application and their connection to other components, and will add functionalities to the application that demonstrate more advanced AI application techniques like frameworks, prompt tuning, and conversation memory. Then, the students will go through the process of setting up a Python virtual environment, investigating Power hardware resources, and using the Hardware Management Console (HMC) to ensure memory and other resources are optimized for AI workloads. 

IBM Storage Defender Data Protect is a comprehensive data backup and recovery solution that supports a wide range of cloud-native, edge, and on-premises workloads at scale. It helps organizations meet governance and compliance requirements for data protection and incident response, significantly reducing operational and cyber risk.In this one-day course, students learn how to deploy and perform initial maintenance tasks for an IBM Storage Defender Data Protect cluster. Hands-on lab exercises are conducted using a Linux-based environment.

Learners will also explore the UNION function, inserting, updating, and deleting rows, and will use the create table and create view statements. Additionally, learners will be introduced to advanced functions and performance optimization features in Db2 v12.Learners will participate in hands-on exercises to practice what they have learned.

This course teaches how to make use of advanced SQL techniques. This course utilizes IBM Data Studio on a Windows 11 operating system, but the SQL queries are appropriate for Linux, UNIX, and Windows environments. Along with a review of some basic relational database concepts, this course covers some of the OLAP features of Db2, including GROUP and RANK functions. Learners will explore coding joins, using the CASE expressions, the CAST function, and code advance SQL constructs, such as recursive SQL and table expressions.Learners will also participate in hands-on exercises to practice writing complex queries and subqueries.

This course provides you with information about the functions of IBM's Db2, a relational database manager which may be installed under a variety of operating systems on many hardware platforms.   Db2 runs under a number of operating systems, such as z/OS, VM, Linux, UNIX, and Windows operating systems. The course includes discussion of how the Db2 products provide services. The focus is on the services Db2 provides and how users work with Db2, not on its internal workings. This course does not include hands-on labs.

This course introduces the system programmer to the tasks required to support a z/VM operating system. It gives an overview of the processes that are required to install z/VM, and to do the required tailoring steps to support guest operating system virtual machines and CMS users. The students will leave the course with the knowledge to do the steps for adding guest systems and other virtual machines to the z/VM system, to apply service to the z/VM system, and to define a minimal TCP/IP configuration. Also, this course is designed to teach the implementation of SUSE, RedHat, and Ubuntu distributions of Linux on IBM Z and on LinuxONE.

IBM Storage Protect is an enterprise data protection solution designed to help you streamline your data protection processing, reduce the cost of storage, and provide the flexibility and security to meet any service level agreement. IBM Storage Protect optimizes storage utilization by using incremental forever as well as block-level backup and replication, policy-based data management, and an intuitive interface, the Operations Center. In this course, you learn how the use of two or more Storage Protect servers provides more options for data movement in the environment, like replication to multiple targets. You also use IBM Cloud Object Storage to create a storage pool for backups and long-term retention. The bulk of the administrative tasks are performed using the Operations Center and Command Builder which provides a command line interface for all servers configured in the Operations Center. This course also includes scripting, performance tuning, protecting, and recovering the database and storage pools, and an introduction to IBM Storage Protect Plus. The hands-on exercises are performed on three different IBM Storage Protect servers, two on Windows, and one on Linux, with additional systems added to provide the IBM Cloud Object Storage environment. This course is the second in a two-course series. It is for Storage Protect administrators who are familiar with the daily management tasks on a single server, and focuses on incorporating more advanced features, including replication and use of cloud object storage. Basic concepts and installation are not covered in this course.  TS619G, the first course in the series, IBM Storage Protect 8.1.12 Implementation and Administration, covers installation and basic administration of a single server.

IBM Storage Protect 8.1.12 is a data backup and recovery solution designed to help you manage your data retention, reduce the cost of storage, and provide appropriate recovery point objectives to meet any service level agreement. IBM Storage Protect offers improved efficiency and flexibility using object-based data management and policy driven retention. This five-day course will focus on implementation and basic administration of an IBM Storage Protect environment. The hands-on lab exercises are performed on a Windows 2016 environment. The course materials include examples of AIX and Linux commands, when different from Windows.

This course addresses Linux system administration tasks necessary to manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux specifically on an IBM Power Systems server.  The course covers the basics of the Power Systems architecture, virtualization of Power Systems servers, installation and management of Linux on Power Systems, and closes with an introduction to enabling the environment for inclusion in an on-premise private cloud using IBM PowerVC.

This course teaches IBM Spectrum LSF 10.1 version.The course is designed to give system administrators the knowledge required to implement and maintain LSF in their working environment. They will gain a solid understanding of workload resource management, cluster configuration and administration. The workshops provide valuable experience with the installation of LSF, cluster configuration and administration. The system administrator will also learn helpful hints and tips and develop fundamental troubleshooting skills.

This course is intended for IT professionals who administer IBM Storage Scale storage clusters that consist of Linux nodes. The course covers IBM Storage Scale features that enable remote and protocol-based access to data stored in a cluster file system. Topics include Storage Scale multi-cluster support, remote file system access, Active File Management (AFM), AFM-based Asynchronous Disaster Recovery (AFM DR), Cluster Export Services (CES), and CES protocol support for NFS, SMB, and S3 object access. These features are described in the lecture materials and implemented through hands-on lab exercises.Students should already understand the basics of installing, configuring, and managing an IBM Storage Scale clustered file system. This prerequisite can be met by attending H005G - IBM Storage Scale Basic Administration for Linux and AIX.Students should also be familiar with advanced IBM Storage Scale administration concepts and the tools used to install and configure IBM Storage Scale components. This prerequisite can be met by attending H006G - IBM Storage Scale Advanced Administration for Linux, or by having equivalent hands-on experience.

The course includes information on the Storage Scale installer toolkit, installer GUI, cluster upgrade scenarios, cluster health monitoring, cluster performance data collection and monitoring, management GUI, file system encryption, cluster security, and call home features. Many of the features are described in lecture materials and implemented in lab exercises.

This course is intended for IT professionals tasked with administering an IBM Storage Scale storage cluster in Linux and AIX environments. It includes information on installing, configuring, and monitoring an IBM Storage Scale cluster. Many Storage Scale features are described in lecture materials and then implemented in lab exercises. These features include: Storage management, high availability options, cluster management, and information lifecycle management (ILM) tools. Upon completion of this course, you will earn an IBM badge that recognizes your skills and knowledge in this area. Note: Although the lab environment is running the Linux operating system, the differences in Storage Scale compared with an AIX environment are minor.  Therefore, the skills acquired during the course can be applied in both Linux and AIX environments.

Learn how to perform system administration in an IBM Power environment. Learn about the features of PowerVM Editions and how to configure and manage LPARs running AIX V7.3 or Linux using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).
